Quick Update, No Pictures

The bathroom project is coming along very, very well!  I am excited to share pictures with everyone, but I cannot find my camera!  Dang.  The floors are beautiful & the walls are striped.  I want to get some opinions on the stripes, as I feel they are leaning more towards Rugby Stripes and not as soft/feminine as I wanted.

Will search for the camera after I am done meeting with clients today & have pictures for you tomorrow!

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend!

Okay, I can't have a post without any pictures, so I will leave you with this pathetic "pet me!" picture of Derby.  I mean, who doesn't love pictures of dogs?  Crazy people, that is who!

Yes, our black and white dog sheds her white fur all over our dark floors/furniture & her black fur all over our white/light stuff...sigh.

A Mustachioed Pooch

Derby joined the cool kids club, with the nod of approval from hipsters everywhere, when she decided to grow a handlebar mustache.

Who doesn't love a dog with a mustache?

Vintage Book Dog Art

Come again? These are not two things that would normally go together, but once you see this adorable art by Paste, you'll know what I mean.

The artist, Denise Fielder, found a box of vintage books one day.  My guess is that most people would display them or toss them, but she visualized this creative idea - use the varying yellow shades to create art!  That they are of pups makes me like them even more.

Books & dogs are two of my favorite things & I can see a bookified (is that a word) Derby in our future (she does custom orders!).

Happy Birthday, Derby!

Since Derby is a rescue/shelter dog, we don't know her exact birth date.  We've decided to make her adoption day her birthday, since it was estimated that she was 12 months old when we adopted her.  Happy 2nd Birthday, Derby!

I have friends that do these cute posts with their kids, so I thought I'd copy the questions (with some modifications) for our "kid".  We have officially been Derby's parents for one year (we fostered her for a couple of weeks as well)!

Nicknames: Derby Girl, Derbs, Snoop Derby Derbs, Pretty, Pretty Girl, Waggy, Waggy Tail, Freak-o, Whiny (all said in a loving voice, of course!)
Temperament/Things You Do: You are an absolute nut who runs around like a wild woman.  You also can sleep for 20 hours/day if we let you.  You don't like water or getting your paws wet & will leap over every puddle we encounter.  You want a belly rub more than anything else.  You are very happy when you are laying in the sun or on the back cushions (on your favorite blanket - sorry sis!) of the couch, keeping an eye on the neighborhood :)
Things I Could Do Without: The fact that you follow us around everywhere, even to the bathroom!  That you shed all day, every day - no blowing your coat twice a year, you do it every single day.
Item/Toy We/You Love The Most:  Kong, Loofa Dogs / Anything with a squeaker
Item/Toy You Love The Most But Shouldn't:  Plastic Cups, Books, Remotes!  Bad dog :)
Things I’m Loving Most Right Now: That you are *finally* trained and have calmed down a bit after your 2 weeks of board & train with Dynamic Dogs
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: That it's finally nice enough to go to the dog park!

Sounds/Words: Well since you can't talk, I'll modify this to "Sounds/Words You Understand": Sit, Down, Stay, Off, Leave It, Drop It, NO!

Foods you like: Cheese, eggs, any kind of treat, peanut butter, bagels (as a matter of fact, you can eat an entire Costco sized package in one sitting) :/

My absolute favorite picture of you :)

The day after we started fostering Veruca. You quickly became Derby.

Favorite Blanket!

You are also quite the artiste! This is an art installation you did one night while we were gone. We now keep the food on the back deck.

This picture perfectly describes you.

Your first Christmas!

You love going to Wisconsin in the summer AND winter!  Initially, you weren't sure about the ice. However, you overcame your fear & loved it!

Belly rubs are your favorite thing in the world & you immediately roll onto your back if someone is petting you.

Lincoln Park is safe because of your watchful eye!

Here's to many, many more birthdays!

Vacation Playlist and Other Random Things

We are ready to go!  I just dropped off Derby at the kennel.  Normally I would RoverNight while we are away, but since we'll be gone for 9 days that isn't an option.  Plus, as you've seen on this blog in the past, Derby could stand to have a little training in her life.  Something that I just don't know how to do.  She will spend the next 15 days at Dynamic Dogs Chicago learning basic obedience, how to walk on a leash properly, how to deal with separation anxiety and many other things.  I was super sad dropping her off, but she was running around like a wild woman in their huge outdoor space when I left, so I know she'll have fun :)  And I will blog about the whole experience in a couple of weeks!

Now onto the music!  We made a few mix CDs to take with us to the Turks & Caicos.  The rental car will likely be more than a few years old which means no ipod hookup!  So we paid a visit to mix tapes of yore & updated them for a fun, beachy set list.  We really do love all kinds of music and that is reflected in our selections!

Jack Johnson, William Fitzsimmons (Willy Fitz is hubbers' favorite)
